Historical Context & Variants:

Produced primarily in the late 1980s through the early 1990s, this rifle was Colts attempt to bring a military-style rifle to the civilian market.

Early models had bayonet lugs and flash suppressors, but later models (post-1994) complied with the Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) by omitting these features.

Some models may have large pivot pins and sear blocks to prevent installation of full-auto components.

Pre-Ban vs. Post-Ban:

Pre-ban models (manufactured before September 13, 1994) are highly sought after due to their original military-style features.

Post-ban models (1994-2004) lacked flash suppressors, bayonet lugs, and collapsible stocks due to federal restrictions at the time.

Comparison to Other Colt AR-15 Models:

The Sporter series (such as the Colt Sporter Match HBAR) had a heavy barrel profile, whereas the AR-15A2 Government Model had the traditional government-profile barrel.

The Match Target series, which followed the AWB, removed some of the military-style features found on the AR-15A2 Government Model.

Collectibility & Value:

Pre-ban examples are highly desirable among collectors and typically command higher prices.

Value depends on condition, original configuration, and included accessories (such as Colt-marked magazines or original factory packaging).

The rifle remains a reliable and historically significant semi-automatic rifle that closely resembles its military counterpart.
